Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger
Announces Grant to NYPD Transit K-9 Team

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger announced today that The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at The Giving Back Fund will be distributing a grant to The New York City Police Foundation to purchase, train, and care for a canine in the NYPD Transit Bureau’s Canine Team.

The Transit Bureau’s Canine Units of New York City are proactive and highly visible law enforcement teams used to benefit the citizens of New York while they access the transit system.  The canine units respond to emergency incidents, search and rescue calls as well as terror threats.  They are also an invaluable resource in deterring and defusing potential conflict situations within New York City’s various transportation mediums, such as: trains, buses, ferries and trams.

“Through the generosity of the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, the NYPD has been able to put another highly qualified canine on patrol in the nation’s largest city, helping it keep New York the safest among the nation’s large cities,” said New York Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly

“Across our country, police and firemen risk their lives to protect our communities, and K-9 units provide a critical resource, “said Ben Roethlisberger about the grant. “ I hope my contribution can add to their efforts and encourage others to support our police and fire departments and the dogs that assist them.”

This NFL season The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation is distributing grants to Police and Fire Departments in Pittsburgh and in the cities and surrounding communities of each regular season away opponent for the Steelers.

The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation seeks to provide support for police and fire departments throughout the US and to enhance the quality of life for residents of Findlay, OH and Pittsburgh, PA.
